Dear Friends: I want to extend a special congratulations to Hillhouse High School valedictorian Shaylah McQueen, who has been selected out of 24,000 applications nationwide to receive a prestigious Gates Millenium Scholarship. The scholarship will provide Shaylah with full college tuition, possibly through graduate school. Shaylah plans to use the scholarship to study teaching at Wilson College in Pennsylvania, a national center for single mothers in higher education. The college was the first nationwide to offer on-campus residential housing for single mothers. The Gates scholarship will allow her to reside on campus with her one-year-old son Arlander.
